Contract negotiations are already underway. The contract for all Southern California grocery workers expired on March 5th, and is currently in an extension period. That means we need to pull together through the negotiations.
What's at Stake?
Our wages, benefits, and working conditions are all being negotiated in this new contract. If we stick together we can make sure corporate employers do the right thing and eliminate the two tiers in our current contract, give us equal treatment for equal work, and provide a fair benefits package for all employees.
But this will only happen if we stand together and demand respect from the big supermarket corporations.
What are the issues?
Our issues are about fairness:
- Eliminate the two tier contract
- Guarantee equal pay for equal work
- Fair benefits and pensions for all employees
Our employers are going to try and plead that poverty, non-union competition, and the economy prevent them from being fair to us. But their arguments just don’t hold up -- just look at the facts
